"Fun With Filter Effects" Freebie Updated for CA2

If anyone wants a copy of the Filter Effects I created in CA1 for my video tutorial, I've spent a little time getting them into a format for getting them quickly and easily into CA2, using the AppData folder route (as mentioned in trulytango's thread here and oldfinger's thread here.

The zipped file contains 3 folders - you need to put the SECOND folder and its contents into the AppData files.

GETTING CA1 "FUN WITH FILTER EFFECT" EFFECTS INTO CA2

Download the zipped file KPL-Effects

Unzip and get Folder ONE – KPL_Effects.

Open this folder and you will find a SECOND one within it - the KPL_Effects category folder, which in turn contains the THIRD sub-category folder KPL_Tutorial_Effects_for_CA2, which contains the actual effects.
There is also a copy of these instructions on how to get it into CA2.

You need to transfer the 2nd folder, along with its sub-folder into the Serif Craft Artist App Data Graphic Styles section.

This involves going in to the AppData files.

Although the AppData route may seem rather technical, it is really quite straight forward and simple if you do the following.

1. Make sure CraftArtist2 is closed.

2. Hold down the Windows key and press "r" to bring up the 'Run' dialog.

3. Type %AppData%\Serif\CraftArtist\ into the box and press 'OK'.

This brings up the CraftArtist Folder(s). If you click 2.0 you find within it the various folders

for Brushes, Graphic Styles, Stencils and the like.

4. Open up the Graphic Styles folder.

5. Move the second folder and its contents (third folder) from your download into this folder.

6. Exit from the AppData files.

7. Open up CA2, and you should see a new category has appeared – KPL Effects. Click on that and the
effects should be there, ready for use, in sub-category KPL_Tutorial_Effects_for_CA2.

It is a good idea to regularly back up your data files. In the event of having to re-install CA2
from new all the additional information will be ready to slot back in.

1. Right-click on the 2.0 folder; select Copy.

2. Rght-click and select Paste.

3. You should now have a folder 2.0 – Copy which has all your latest customisations within it.

4. It is always a good idea to have a back-up copy in a totally different place, in case of computer
melt-down, so you may want to copy/back this up on to an external hard-drive or memory stick. I
regularly back up ALL my Craft Artist files and folders, kits, etc., to a separate drive in the
hubby's den. Just in case ….

I'd like to thank Iris for making the time to check these out for me - it took a few goes to get the folders right , and she also discovered that 3 of the effects produced unexpected results when applied to text fonts. I have corrected those so they should work OK on both images and fonts.

The Valentine Red effect has been affected by the Reflection Map issue and so comes out a bit different to the original. Hopefully, once that issue is sorted, that can be rectified.

I'd also like to thank Pauline for being my guinea pig and trying this out before I posted.

If anyone has any problems getting these into CA2, just let me know.

Now all I have to do is go through all my own personal effects to update them to CA2 - that, alas, is slightly more long-winded.

@Kat
Cut it out. Don't even want to think about it. Grandkids are all older now and want expensive stuff.

Just in case anyone is having any problems with these showing up properly in CA2 once installed, i.e. the category showing up but being empty:

When zipping up the file it adds an "envelope" folder. Just as in real life, you effectively discard this one.

To get a separate category for my effects do this:

You have the zipped download folder - yes?

You unzip this to get a normal folder (Folder 1 - the "envelope") - yes?

Open this folder - just like opening an envelope, and there is another folder with the same name (Folder 2). Yes?

THIS is the folder that you put into the Graphic Styles AppData folder.

When you open up CA2 you should now have a KPL Effects Category, and the effects themselves should show up when you click the tab.

Any problems then, just holler.
