Posted: 26th September 2012   Category: How to's   By: jogaskin

Hi everyone,

We've got a brand new video tutorial for you today - how to break apart your item after using a jigsaw punch in CraftArtist 2 Professional.

Please note that this is a very quick tutorial and isn't as polished as normal! There is no audio, just on-screen prompts, so you may have to watch it a couple of times. We hope you find it useful!

Enjoy!

Thanks,
Jo

Tips & Tricks: SVG’s and CraftArtist 2 Professional

Tips & Tricks: SVG’s and CraftArtist 2 Professional

We realise a lot of you have been asking about SVG’s and CraftArtist 2 Professional on the forums, so our lovely QA team here at Serif have been looking into importing and exporting SVG’s from CraftArtist 2 Professional to help us write some useful tips for you all.

CraftArtist 2 Professional gives you the ability to import and export SVG files. This may be a helpful function if you want to import SVG’s made in CraftArtist 2 Professional to other software used in conjunction with cutting machines.

Let us know how you get on!

Importing SVG’s into CraftArtist

There are 2 ways to import SVG’s into CraftArtist 2 Professional.

Insert Photo

1. Go to the toolbar and choose Insert > Photo > From File…

2. Browse to the SVG you wish to import and choose Open.

TIP: The shortcut for this action in CraftArtist 2 Professional is Ctrl+I.

Insert via the Photos tab

1. Go to the Photos tab on the left hand side of your workspace.

2. Choose Add…

3. Browse to the SVG you wish to import and choose Open.

Tips for exporting SVG’s from CraftArtist (for use in other cutting software)

1. Get the embellishment you wish to export as SVG onto your page. This may be from a digikit,  from a PDF you have imported, from laying out a 3D decoupage object for print or simply something you have made yourself in CraftArtist!

Optional Step
With the embellishment selected, convert the object to a vector via Tools > Convert to Curves.

NOTE:
Only follow this step if you are experiencing problems with your exported SVG files! With the embellishment still selected choose the Line tab and change the line width to 1pt. (Anything other than 0.0pt will work, but ideally you will want to keep it as close to your object).

2. Select the embellishment and from the toolbar select Format > Line Colour. Choose any colour you wish and click OK (keep a note of the colour values as this colour choice will be used to define the cutting path).

3. With the embellishment still selected choose the Line tab and change the line width to 1pt. (Anything other than 0.0pt will work, but ideally you will want to keep it as close to your object).

4. Now go to File > Export > Export As Picture.

5. In the Picture Export dialog, go to the Properties section and change Format to be Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). The default settings should be fine (everything unticked except Render Unsupported).

6. Click Export and give your file a name and then click Save.

7. Now you will be able to import your SVG into other software programs.

It is worth noting that some pictures (such as JPG and BMP files) do not support transparent backgrounds, so you will need to use the CraftArtist Cutout Studio to remove the background before you export. If you don't you will just be cutting out a rectangle!

FOR MORE INFORMATION please refer to your other software/cutting machine documentation.

Happy Crafting!

Kate

Please note that we are not responsible for the features of other software and do not claim that CraftArtist can do any more that import and export SVG files. Other software which can import SVG files should in theory work with CraftArtist.
