Mother's Day projects from Angie!

Posted: 8th May 2012   Category: Create your own projects   By: jess serif

With Mother's Day around the corner for all of you in the US we thought we'd get the fantastic Angie Hinksman to create some gorgeous cards for you to make in celebration!

For all of you in the UK who have already celebrated Mother's Day, these projects would also make great birthday cards with the recipients name on!

So, here are two quick and easy ideas for creating Mother’s Day Cards, using CraftArtist.
Mother's Day Projects
You’ll need a few basic supplies:

  • CraftArtist (any version) - Including our FREE CraftArtist Compact
  • 2 sheets of printable card or photo paper
  • 1 sheet of 12 x 12 coloured cardstock
  • Scissors or a rotary cutter and cutting matt
  • 3D dimensional pads

For the ‘Stepper Card’

Stepper CardTo create your digital layout:

Step 1: Create a new document in Craft Artist.  Choose Regular then A4 as your page size and layout.

Step 2: Next load the Mother’s Day 2012 kit, adding all of the items to your workspace.

Step 3: Use the Type tool to add an upper-cased ‘M’ to your layout (I’ve used Arial Rounded MT Bold, but you can use what font you have on your system). In Transform panel (located in the right-hand bottom of your workspace), resize the letter so that it is approximately 3 inches tall.

Step 4: Next, using the Select tool, drag your letter into the Stencils panel.  Now delete the letter from your layout.

Step 5: Create a letter O stencil as before and delete the original from your layout.

Step 6: Next, add your first stencil to your layout.

Step 7: Add a Material (I’ve turned one of the backgrounds into a material by first dragging it onto its own layer and then dragging this into the Material section of my workspace.

Step 8: Once you’ve added your material, click on the stencil to release it. You may need to re-size it back to 3 inches at this point.

Step 9: Repeat these steps to create the letter O and remaining M.  I’ve added a Green border to my letter O, but this is optional.

Step 10: Now, we’ll convert the letter O to a digi-frame.  Select it, then choose ‘convert to bitmap’ in the Tools menu. Next, drag the letter into the Frames panel, delete the one on your workspace and finally bring the newly created frame back onto your layout. Now fill your frame with the picture of your choice! I’ve also added a flower embellishment, re-colouring it yellow.

Step 11: Next create a rectangle, using the shape tool (I’ve chosen yellow for my fill colour). Size it approximately 4 inches wide by 1.25 inches tall.  Next, add a sentiment, using the Type tool to your rectangle.

Step 12: Print your layout.

This is really easy when you know how!

Step 1: Cut a 12 x 6 inch piece of cardstock and score it at 4, 8,9,10 and 11 inches.

Step 2: Fold your card so that you have a 4x6inch card with 2 accordion style steps at the front as shown.

Step 3: Finally attach your letters and sentiment, using 3D dimension pads.

For the simpler cardSimple Layout Card

Step 1: Create a new layout, choosing Greeting Cards and the size of your choice (I’ve chosen the A7 size, Tent Fold).

Step 2: Once you’ve loaded the Mother’s Day kit, add a Background to your layout. Next create your letters, following the instructions above.

Step 3: Arrange the word MOM and your sentiment.  Add a Shadow to the elements, using the Drop Shadow tool.  This will give your card depth.

Step 4: Finally, print, fold and enjoy!

Have a great day!
